Mansi Singh receives the L’Oréal UNESCO “For Women in Science” award

A major boost for women in science: Dr. Mansi Singh Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt from has been awarded the L’Oréal UNESCO “For Women in Science” (FWIS) grant. The internationally renowned programme honors outstanding early-career female researchers and strengthens their research impact through financial support and a global network.

The award ceremony took place on 16 September in Düsseldorf, where four German scientists were honoured with the FWIS grant. Under the motto “The world needs science – and science needs women,” L’Oréal, the German Commission for UNESCO, and the German Humboldt Network recognized the researchers during the evening event, hosted by TV presenter Arabella Kiesbauer.

The FWIS programme, launched globally in 1998 by the L’Oréal Foundation and UNESCO and established in Germany since 2007, has already supported more than 4,700 women in science worldwide – including later Nobel Prize laureates.

This year, the €25,000 FWIS grant awards were given to four researchers. Dr. Mansi Singh was recognized for her work in applied mathematics – developing new methods to significantly speed up ocean and climate dynamics analyses and simulations while preserving accuracy. Her approach helps save valuable computing resources and improves the forecasting of extreme weather events. Congratulations to Dr. Singh on this well-deserved achievement!
