RTG Course: Ocean/Atmosphere Time Series Analysis: Theory and Practice

The course will take place from January 10 – 21, 2022

Lecturer: Jonathan M. Lilly

When: January 10–21, 2022, 1:00 - 6:00 p.m. each day (Monday to Friday)

Where: online

This is a topical workshop open to all TRR PhDs and postdocs.

Course description: This course will introduce students to classical as well as cutting-edge techniques for analyzing time series in oceanographic, atmospheric science, and climate applications. Beginning with a solid understanding of the link between time-domain and frequency-domain analyses, we will proceed from simple smoothing, to Fourier spectral estimation, to time-frequency methods such as the continuous wavelet transform, to stochastic modeling using random processes, and possibly other more advance topics.
