TRR 181 seminar: Camilla Nobili - "Rigorous bounds on the heat flux in turbulent convection"

The TRR 181 seminar is held every two weeks in the semester and as announced during semester break. The locations of the seminar changes between the three TRR 181 locations, but is broadcasted online for all members of the TRR.

The TRR 181 seminar is held by Camilla Nobili (Universität Hamburg) on

Rigorous bounds on the heat flux in turbulent convection

on May 3rd from 10 to 11 am at Universität Bremen at MZH 3150.

*Abstract*

In this seminar we discuss some recent results concerning the problem of finding upper bounds on the average upward heat transport in the Rayleigh-B\'enard convection model. We first consider the infinite-Prandtl number model and show the merits as well as the limitations of the \textit{background field method}. In the second part of the talk we present an upper bound for arbitrary Prandtl numbers obtained through harmonic analysis techniques.
