TRR 181 Seminar "Convergence of Ginelli's algorithm for covariant Lyapunov vectors"

The TRR 181 seminar is held every two weeks in the semester and as announced during semester break. The locations of the seminar changes between the three TRR181 locations, but is broadcastet online for all members of the TRR.

The TRR 181 seminar is held by Florian Noethen (Universität Hamburg, PhD in M1) on December 6, 11 am at Universität Hamburg, Bundesstr. 53, Room 22/23

Convergence of Ginelli's algorithm for covariant Lyapunov vectors

Abstract

The geometric structure of instabilities of turbulent solutions is  characterized by covariant Lyapunov vectors (CLVs). They describe a  basis in tangent space that relates growth and decay of instabilities  to Lyapunov exponents. Since existence and uniqueness of both, CLVs  and Lyapunov exponents, are given by the Multiplicative Ergodic  Theorem, it remains to investigate convergence of CLV-algorithms.In the upcoming presentation I want to give an intuition of CLVs in  the context of general dynamical systems. Via asymptotic qualities of  CLVs, I will explain the ideas behind Ginelli's algorithm and present  a convergence theorem.
