*Abstract*
We revisit the idea that the AMOC is controlled by Southern Ocean winds. In particular we address the question how the sites of deep water formation can know about changes to Southern Ocean winds. The audience is encouraged to prepare for the lecture by either reading Kawase's original 1987 JPO paper, or by reading its discussion in Pedlosky's New Testament, chapter 7.
