Report - Spring School 2026: PhD Researchers Connect in Lauenburg

For many years, TRR 181 has organized a Spring School, a week-long event where our PhD students come together to share their progress, exchange ideas and network.

This year, 25 of us traveled before Easter to Lauenburg an der Elbe for a productive gathering and inspiring. Throughout the Spring School, all participants had the chance to present their research through poster sessions or oral presentations.

The program was further enriched by two keynote lectures on current developments in our field. Postdoc Roland Welter delivered a talk on "Turbulence and Energy Cascades", while young project leader Han Wang discussed "Inverse Cascades", offering deeper insights into ongoing research trends.

An especially valuable component was a workshop led by Karin Bodewits from Naturalscience.Careers, focused on self-presentation and networking skills. This session provided our researchers with essential tools to effectively communicate their work and build professional connections, crucial skills for their academic careers. How can I introduce my research at conferences? What should I keep in mind during conversations?

Of course, the event was not just about work, there was also plenty of fun! Despite the lack of summer weather, the setting by the Elbe river was enjoyed by all: Lauenburg, with its charming streets and scenic views. And in the evening, we even visited local bars to unwind and socialize.
